Ambient Air Conditioning - FAQ

Q. I am told that heat pump inverter systems are very energy efficient. Is there any government incentive to fit heat pump inverter systems?

A. Heat pump inverter systems are recognised as energy efficient under the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme. Under the ECA scheme you can claim back the cost of the investment, its offset against the company’s capital allowance. There is now an ECA section on the company tax return doc. See eca.gov.uk for more details

Q. We are running an air conditioning system which uses R22 refrigerant, you maintain it for us. If we suffer a refrigeration leak, can you still charge it with R22 refrigerant?

A. Until Jan 2010 we can, however the cost of R22 is rocketing and it is becoming harder to get hold of. As of 1 Jan 2010 you will not be able to get new R22 refrigerant at all. The only legal R22 will be reclaimed R22 and this also is becoming increasingly expensive and hard to get hold of. On 1 Jan 2015 the use of R22 will be totally illegal.

Q. I believe that we should be keeping records of refrigerants sued for F Gas compliance. Can you help us with this?

A. We are REFCOM registered. This is the register of contractors competent to handle refrigerants. Under the F Gas regs, companies must keep records of any movement of all refrigerants used in any equipment on site. As of July 09 it is a requirement that all handlers of refrigerants are registered. We have an in house service management system whereby we keep refrigerant records in a manner that ensures our clients are F Gas compliant, as now required by law.

Q. Our company Health & Safety policy states that we cannot allow non compliant contractors on site. What accreditations does Ambient Air Conditioning have?

A. We have CHAS accreditation, HVCA accreditation and are Constructionline members. We produce comprehensive and fully compliant documentation for all of our activities, including risk assessments and method statements. It is increasingly the norm for customers to require us too participate in a H&S induction before commencing work on a new site.
